Last week, both social media and the local news reported that American Airlines had to cancel thousands of flights unexpectedly. A lot of people were left to sleep in airports, or had to wait for hours until a different flight was available. Lo and behold, I was one of those people. I was flying back from a quick getaway to Puerto Rico.

My flight was supposed to depart from the airport at 8:30 am. Long story short, I ended up boarding my plane at 2:00 pm. After a 2 hour layover, I finally headed back to North Carolina around 7:00 pm. Once I landed back in NC, I went straight to baggage claim to retrieve my luggage only to find out my things were still in Puerto Rico.

I had become too tired to be upset. I decided to take a few deep breaths and just to follow the customer service agent’s instructions as she filed a delayed luggage claim for me. However, when I returned home… I noticed that my skin care items were in my checked bag.

That was when I got upset.

Lol. I take my skin care regime very seriously and I don’t play missing a wash.

As I walked around my apartment, weighing out the pros and cons of going to CVS to buy some travel-sized face wash… I bust out into laughter at myself. Why was I going crazy over something so small considering the current state of the world??

Like for goodness sakes: the whites are trying to tell us that critical race theory is harmful, the other whites are causing black creators to go on strike and we are still in the middle of a pandemic.

And I’m mad over exfoliator.

Don’t get me wrong, I have the right to be mad, but like Solange sang so beautifully … I gotta let it go!!

Considering that my material items can be replaced, I decided to play a guided mediation on gratitude to calm myself down. Yeah, I had a hard day, but there is also a lot that I have to be grateful for. I have a home and a baby girl that loves me despite my mess. I am happy to have an excellent support system. Sometimes it takes things not going as planned for us to realize how truly blessed we are.

My luggage ended up being delivered the next day. I opened my bag and have never been happier to see my things. Yeah, some of it I bought on Afterpay and Klarna.  And yeah, my foundation is on its last leg. But they are my things and I am grateful for everything that spirit has blessed me with. I am also grateful for what spirit is bringing and will continue to bless me with.

Practicing gratitude will show you how great your life really is and will allow you to be open to receiving abundance. Showing gratitude can also boost your vibration because you’re not feeding into a lack mindset. When you are having a tough time, I challenge you to take a few moments and jot down everything that you are grateful for. I guarantee that this will make you feel 10 times better than you did previously!

Now, please excuse me. While I finally unpack this big ass bag. I’ve got to learn how to stop over-packing (lmao).

Have you ever had a moment where you had to check yourself? How did it feel?
