2020 has proved itself to be one of the most unexpected and tumultuous years to date. In fact, it felt like three years of chaos meshed into a measly 11 months. That being said, even amid all this disarray, there is still a bit of time left to use the remaining days of 2020 to our advantage.
Here is a “Remainder of the Year To-Do List” for you to use to help make the most out of the end of 2020.
-Designate a day for self-care
Yes, I know this sounds particularly hard to manage throughout the busy holiday season, but find a time for YOU. This means designating not only a few hours but an entire day to give yourself the utmost self-satisfaction. Whether this means binge-watching a new Netflix series, I’d suggest Half & Half or taking the day to create a mini-spa experience. It’s important to give yourself a break. Throughout this time, reflect on the year we’ve all experienced and your plans for the new year.
-Learn a new recipe
I don’t know about you, but cooking has become weirdly therapeutic to me during quarantine, and this is coming from someone who made the microwave her best friend at one point. Nevertheless, take this holiday season to learn how to cook a dish you’ve been eyeing. This not only gives you a moment to hone a new skill, but receive a delicious meal in the process.
-Take a moment to journal
If you haven’t already, journal about how this year has made you feel. Although it may seem daunting to reflect on such a hectic year- it could be a great release to have before entering the new year. So take a few minutes or an hour if you’d like to sit down and reflect.
-Call a Friend
Check on a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to- for no reason other than to catch up. This is a great way to not only rekindle a relationship but gain some new perspectives from someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.
-Have a mini dance party
Have a mini dance party with your friends via Zoom or by yourself and give yourself a moment to let loose and have fun —even if it is just in the confines of your bedroom! Temple Indigo has the perfect playlist to pair with whatever mood you’re in through our Temple Tunes Series!
-Meditate and Reflect
Before the end of the year, go outside (if it’s not too cold) and meditate. Possibly begin with yoga, and gradually move into deep reflection, to give yourself a moment to just exist. This movement of meditations should relinquish the stresses of this year (even if it’s just for a moment)to help give yourself a bit of peace- even if it’s temporary.
Whether you choose to do one or all six of the items on this to-do list, make sure you prioritize your mental health as we move into the new year. Try to make time for things that serve you to enter the new year with a nourished spirit and content state of mind.
